Preferences Feature

This feature allows you to review your system-wide preference settings and perform changes if necessary.

When you click on 'Preferences' from the Main Console window you will come to a screen that allows you to :

  • change information that you have previously entered including your Account Id (if you entered it incorrectly during Easy Setup), Password, Computer ID, email address and log size
  • review the default revision and delete options
  • view what version of BackJack™ you are using - this appears in the bottom left hand corner of your Preferences window

Here's how the Preferences window will appear:

Preferences

Let's review each field separately.

Account Id - this is the BackJack Account Number that we emailed to you when you first registered with us online.

Password - this field shows the password that you entered during the online registration process. You can change your password at any time if you prefer. The name cannot have spaces.

Computer Id - the name that you assigned to uniquely identify your computer within your organization. You can change your Computer Id at any time if you prefer. No spaces are allowed in this field.

Email address - this will show the email address that you entered during the online registration process. If you prefer to keep this address the same, it means that ALL BackJack correspondence will be sent to this address (billing information, account status, confirmation of backups, etc.)

However, this email address can be changed. The email address that you provide in this field is where confirmation of your backups will ONLY go. All other BackJack correspondence will continue to be sent to the original email address that was provided during online registration.

Maximum Log Size - simply refers to the amount of information that can be stored in your Log file at any one time.

Revision/Delete Options

Please Note: The options that you set here apply only to new items added to a backup set and do not affect the settings for any existing sets.

The first, entitled "Revision Options" is where we give you the choice of what you want to occur when a document has been changed and needs to be backed up again. You can select:

  • replace previous copy - this means that every time you run a specific backup set, it will overwrite (or replace) the previous copy that you have stored on our server
  • keep XX older revision(s) on server - this is the default setting and the option that we recommend for the majority of our users. It means that at any given time you will have two copies of your backup set on our server.
  • keep all revisions on server - this option means that every time you run a specific backup set, it will create another one to be stored on our server. This is your most expensive option, since you will be creating a new copy every time

The second option, entitled "Delete Options" is where we give you the choice of what you want to occur when a file or folder has been deleted from your hard drive. You may decide to delete a file or folder that BackJack is scheduled to back up. If that is the case, you need to tell BackJack what you wish to have happen. Remember, there will still be a copy that you previously backed up on our server. You can select:

  • Leave on server until I remove it - this means that the fike or folder will remain safely stored on our server until you decide you no longer want to store it. You can remove an item by going to the Configure Backup Set window, highlighting the item (file or folder) and selecting remove.
  • Leave on server for XX days from the date it was deleted from the hard drive - 30 days is the default setting - BackJack will continue to store this document on your hard drive for the number of days you specify. We will notify you when this is about to expire.
